About Rabbi Steinsaltz (Even Israel) and Shefa
Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz has been among the strongest advocates and voices for the advancement and clarity of Jewish education and cultural heritage for more than half a century. To further this vital cause of "Let My Pepole Know" Rabbi Steinsaltz founded Shefa to pursue and carry out this critical mission. With the publication of his monumental 45 volume translation of the Talmud into contemporary Hebrew, the Rabbi has recently completed one of his primary goals.
The Steinsaltz Talmud
The Babylonian Talmud is the most encompassing account of the history and culture of the Jewish people. Composed by hundreds of thousands of Jewish sages in a millennium-long process, the 45 volumes of the Steinsaltz Gemara are a gateway to the daily lives, aspirations, dreams, and prayers of our ancestors -- the ultimate expression of the Jewish spirit.
When Menachem Mendel Schneerson became the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, Chabad-Lubavitch consisted of a small group of Chasidim recovering from near annihilation in the Holocaust. During his forty years of leadership, Rabbi Schneerson transformed Chabad into a global movement marked by extensive outreach activities and a closeknit network of emissaries stationed around the world.
